This Sunday, August 18, after service at 12:15pm, join the Good Trouble Gang for a fascinating look at our U.S. Elections with the return of speaker Teresa Squires Osborne. Invite your friends and neighbors. Refreshments served.
Every four years, the same questions arise: “What is the Electoral College? How does it work? Why do we have it?” Then the statement “We should get rid of it.” Yet four years later, the same questions and statements arise.
We will take a short journey through the why – “How did they come up with this and what were the Framers thinking would occur?” Then onto how the Electoral College works today and why it sticks around. In addition, we can talk about local/state/federal elections, why they look different depending upon the state, and how Supreme Court decisions have impacted the amount of money in U.S. elections.
Teresa Squires Osborne was a long-time AP Government and Social Studies teacher at Reynolds High School. She is currently a Board Member for the Civics Learning Project, among other important postings.
